Summary, in English

Rehabilitation of the long-term sick and individuals with a functional incapacity has recently become a burning political dilemma. It is not only a question of the crisis of the welfare state expressed in higher cost for sick absences and early disability pensions, but also an experienced failure of the welfare state to guarantee participation and social rights. The authors of the book discuss functional incapacity and rehabilitation in relationship to societies formation and barriers that produce handicaps and also attitudes of normality and deviance as they are used and developed by actors within welfare institutions.
