Academic Freedom in Sweden – Webinar with Rebecca Selberg et al.
Rebecca Selberg, Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology, will take part in an international webinar on academic freedom in Sweden. The webinar is organised by the Global Observatory on Academic Freedom (GOAF) and is part of its Country & Region Health Checks series.
A new project to deepen the work on academic freedom and clarify Lund University’s role in society will run throughout 2026.

Sweden is often highlighted as a strong democratic context for higher education. This webinar discusses how academic freedom is shaped by legislation, governance structures, political culture and transnational influences. The focus is on how academic freedom is actually experienced and practised in everyday life within Swedish higher education.
