Checklist new students beginning spring semester 2023
Information for students admitted to a course or programme at the Department of Sociology, Lund University.
We are very happy to welcome you to The Department of Sociology! On this page we have collected the most important information for you at the beginning of the semester. You will find useful links to your welcome letter, web registration, your course platform, your schedule and more.
Welcome letters and introductory meetings
An email with info and a link to our welcome letters is sent to the e-mail address you have provided on universityadmissions.se (or antagning.se) no later than at the end of December/beginning of January. In your welcome letter you will find information that is specific to your course, including information regarding the introductory meeting.
Please note that introductory meetings are for accepted students only and not for people on our waiting list. More information for those on the waiting list can be found further down on this page.
You can also usually see time, date and place for the introductory meeting in your course schedule.

Department building opens 9 January
The Department of Sociology's building is closed for students over the winter holidays and will open again on Monday 9 January.
Opening hours (from 9 January): Monday – Thursday 07:30-17:00, Friday 07:30-16:00.
Students can only enter the department building during these opening hours.

- Activate your Student Account before the semester starts. See no. 1 below.
- Fill in the web registration. Deadline: 16 January. See no. 2 below.
- Attend the compulsory introductory meeting. See no. 3 below.
1. Activate your Student Account
You will need your Student Account in order to carry out the web registration below. The account is used during your whole study period at Lund University. Information about your Student Account will be sent to the e-mail-address that you have registered at universityadmissions.se.
Activate your Student Account at passport.lu.se.
2. Web registration 16 January at the latest
After you have activated your Student Account it is important that you register for the course you are admitted to before the start of semester.
Log in to Ladok with your Student Account.
Please note that you need to register between the dates 9 – 16 January 2023.

3. Attend the compulsory introductory meeting
Find the introductory meeting in your schedule by searching by course code in TimeEdit.
Most courses hold a compulsory introductory meeting to start the course. You can usually see time, date and place for the introductory meeting in your course schedule. Look for "Schedule spring 2023" and then type your course code.
Please note: certain changes in the schedule may be made at short notice.

Schedule, literature and syllabus
Find your schedule in TimeEdit. Use your course code to search, after clicking "Schedule spring 2023".
Course literature (reading list) and syllabus can be found on soc.lu.se/en.
Canvas: Learning platform and information
Our courses and programmes are connected to the learning platform Canvas, where teachers and students communicate with each other and upload information.
In order to receive the information that you need from us at the department you must ensure that "Announcements" are activated in Canvas. Click on "Account" in the left menu, then on "Notifications" and make the selection...
Zoom help and IT support
LU-Zoom is used by Lund University to hold digital lectures or meetings.

Are you on our waiting list?
If you are on our waiting list, the Student Office will contact you if you can be offered a place on the course or the programme. The admission from our waiting list starts during the first week of January 2023.
If you wish to discontinue your studies
If you wish to discontinue your studies on a course on which you are registered, it is important that you report your withdrawal immediately through the Student Portal www.student.lu.se. If you report withdrawal from studies within the first three weeks of the course, known as early withdrawal, you have the opportunity to re-apply for the course at a later date.
If you wish to withdraw from an entire study programme, you must complete a withdrawal from studies form, available at www.soc.lu.se/blanketter. Please contact the study advisers on email: studievagledare [at] soc [dot] lu [dot] se
