Current Research:
My research is done at the intersections of the sociology of work and cultural sociology. The wider aim of my dissertation project is to understand how creative freelance work is reshaped by the growth of the gig economy centered around digital platforms. I am interested in the reasons and motivations for seeking out insecure and precarious freelance work, and how creative workers utilize digital platforms to navigate a highly competitive labor market. I use qualitative methods such as interviews and digital ethnography. Theoretically I’m interested in questions of power, subjectivity and precarization in today’s labor markets.
