Current research

I am currently involved in three research projects.

The first one deals with quantification in healthcare, and the role of numbers in healthcare provision and clinical decision-making.

The second project explores organizational learning after health crises, specifically the ways in which experiences and lessons from the 2009 swine flu, the 2018 heat wave and the COVID-19 pandemic were encoded in routines in the Swedish public healthcare system.

The third project deals with voluntary part-time work. 

Outreach

I am a writer and critic for the Swedish newspapers Sydsvenskan and Aftonbladet. I also give lectures regularly to, for example, healthcare staff, regarding work and working conditions in healthcare.

Background

My research deals mainly with public sector organizations, care and medical professions, public sector management and labor processes in healthcare work. 

In my doctoral thesis I looked at the work environment of nurses. Since then I have been interested in issues concerning work, organization and management in the Swedish public sector, especially the health care system. I often give lectures on, for example, redundancies in healthcare; gender relations in formal organizations; professions and teamwork and since 2022 I have been employed by Skåne University Hospital to conduct research and development work in intensive care and perioperative care.
