This is a research environment for sociological analyses of family- and gender relations, migration and social welfare. In our studies, we focus, e.g., migrant’s vulnerable position and experiences in different parts of the world, new and changing relations of care in the Swedish welfare state, the meaning of hidden disabilities in working life, demographic challenges for families in China, as well as the development of family and labour market policy reforms in Sweden.

We work with different kinds of qualitative methods, such as ethnography, document analysis and life history interviews, as well as with innovative methods and discussions of methodology (memory-work, diary and drawing interviews). Theoretically we have different points of departure but we unite in our interest in social inequality and stratification, particularly as articulated within feminist, queer and post colonial studies.
