Sociology of work and professions (SWAP)

Devoted to research of utmost importance to changes and challenges of labour markets.

The research environment Sociology of work and professions (SWAP) has work as a focal point of analysis. We are interested in different forms of employment and of processes of professionalisation, precarisation, and digitalisation of the workplace.

SWAP is a place for discussion where we come together and deepen our understanding of labour relations as well as trends and contemporary challenges to the labour market, both nationally and internationally. Such questions involve for example how digitalisation and artificial intelligence influence our working lives, as well as the effect of low-wage labour, migration, and in what ways platform work is attuned or a challenge to the Nordic labour market models. Our work is based on a variety of theoretical and methodological traditions.

We usually meet a few times a month to present, discuss and give feedback on each other’s work. We also have the ambition to invite researchers from other universities, both in Sweden and abroad, to present ongoing or recently published work. On these occasions, we open up the seminar to include non-members.
