These pages present the Department of Sociology’s research themes, research environments and research groups.

At the Department of Sociology at Lund University, research is conducted in gender studies, social anthropology and sociology, with a broad thematic and methodological scope.

Our research addresses a wide range of societal issues and includes interdisciplinary collaborations and joint research initiatives. The department also offers an active seminar culture, where ongoing research is presented and discussed.

The department brings together several methodological traditions, including a strong foundation in ethnography and qualitative methods, alongside expertise in quantitative and computational approaches.

Our research covers areas such as environment and development, governance and control, criminology and social policy. Much of our work focuses on power relations and social inequalities, particularly those related to ethnicity, gender, sexuality and social class.
