Planning and changing your studies

Credit transfer, withdrawal from studies, re-registration and leave from studies

Here you will find information about common study-related matters such as eligibility, credit transfer, withdrawal from studies and leave from studies. The information on this page applies to students at the Department of Sociology.

On this page:

Credit transfer and eligibility

Have you studied at Lund University, another Swedish university or abroad? Your previous studies may qualify you for further studies at Lund University or be credited towards your degree.

Eligibility based on studies at another Swedish university

If you have studied sociology, social anthropology or gender studies at another Swedish university, this may qualify you for further studies at Lund University.

How to apply:

  • Contact a study adviser.
  • Submit the syllabus and reading list for the course you have completed.

Eligibility based on studies at a university outside Sweden

If you have studied abroad, an individual assessment will be made to determine which level or course you are eligible to study at Lund University.

The assessment is based on:

  • Official transcript
  • Syllabi
  • Reading lists

Credit transfer for a completed course

You can apply for credit transfer if you have already completed an equivalent course or part of a course. You can apply once you have been admitted and accepted your offer. The application can also be submitted after you have enrolled on the course or programme.

How to apply:

  • Complete the Application for crediting form (see Forms below).
  • Attach:
    • a Ladok transcript
    • the syllabus
    • the reading list

Send your application by email to info [at] soc [dot] lu [dot] se or studievagledare [at] soc [dot] lu [dot] se.

The study adviser prepares the case and the Director of Studies makes the decision. The decision is then registered in Ladok.

Withdrawing from, pausing or resuming your studies

Withdrawal from studies

  • If you have registered for a course or programme that you will not be attending, you need to notify us.
  • Report your withdrawal in Ladok: www.student.ladok.se
  • If you need help, contact the Student Office: info [at] soc [dot] lu [dot] se (info[at]soc[dot]lu[dot]se)
  • If you are studying on a degree programme, you must also complete the Application for discontinuation of programme studies form (see Forms below). Contact a study adviser: studievagledare [at] soc [dot] lu [dot] se
Early withdrawal

If you withdraw within three weeks of the start of the semester, this is registered as an early withdrawal. In that case, you may apply for the course again.

After three weeks

If you withdraw later than three weeks after the start of the semester, you cannot apply for the course again. Instead, you may apply for re-registration, subject to availability.

Re-registration

If you want to complete a course that you have not yet finished, you may be able to re-register.

  • For most courses re-registration can usually be arranged if you contact the department before the start of the semester. Re-registration can only be done before the semester begins.
  • If the course still has the same course code and syllabus, contact a study adviser or a study administrator for re-registration.
  • If the course has changed, contact a study adviser to discuss the available options.

Leave from studies on a degree programme

You can apply for leave from studies on a degree programme after completing at least one semester of study.

How to apply:

  • Contact a study adviser.
  • Complete the Application for leave from studies form (see Forms below).
