Late application

If a course is not full after the first admission round, it may open for late application, giving you an extra chance to apply. This usually happens in December for spring semester courses and in July for autumn semester courses.

Please note that a late application does not guarantee a place on the course. Applications are processed by the Admissions Office at Lund University, not by us at the Department of Sociology. We cannot influence the processing time.

Once you have been admitted, you will receive a welcome email. If you have not received one before the start of the semester, please contact our study advisers studievagledare [at] soc [dot] lu [dot] se (studievagledare[at]soc[dot]lu[dot]se)

If you wish to discontinue your studies

If you wish to discontinue your studies on a course on which you are registered, it is important that you report your withdrawal immediately via Ladok for students. If you report withdrawal from studies within the first three weeks of the course, known as "early withdrawal," you have the opportunity to re-apply for the course at a later date.

If you wish to withdraw from an entire study programme, you must complete a withdrawal from studies form, available at www.soc.lu.se/blanketter. Please contact the study advisers on email: studievagledare [at] soc [dot] lu [dot] se (studievagledare[at]soc[dot]lu[dot]se)

Are you on our waiting list?

If you are on our waiting list, the Student Office will contact you if you can be offered a place on the course or the programme. The admission from our waiting list starts no earlier than the first half of January 2026.

Welcome letter and introductory meeting

An email with a link to our welcome letters will be sent to you no later than two weeks before the start of the semester.

The email is sent to the address you have provided on universityadmissions.se (or antagning.se).

In your welcome letter you will find information that is specific to your course, including information regarding the introductory meeting, registration and course information.

Please note that introductory meetings are for accepted students only and not for those on our waiting list. More information for those on the waiting list can be found on this page under the heading "Admission and reserve admission".

Some time before we send out the link to our welcome letters we publish them on the website, please visit the page Welcome letters to find your course letter.

If you are accepted but have not received a link to your welcome letter, please check your spam inbox before contacting us.

Canvas: Learning platform

Our courses and programmes are linked to the learning platform Canvas, where teachers and students communicate with each other and post information.

You will access your course on Canvas after you have registered to the course according to the instructions above.

On the course page you will find schedules, syllabus, literature lists, reading lists and information from teachers.

In order to receive the information that you need from us at the department you must ensure that "Announcements" are activated in Canvas. Click on "Account" in the left menu, then on "Notifications" and make the selection.

Reading list, syllabus and schedule

Both reading lists and syllabi can be found via the portal “Search syllabus”. Here you should search using your course code. Current reading lists are published no later than one month before the course starts. At the university libraries, course literature is available to borrow in limited numbers. The loan period for course literature is 14 days. If you prefer to buy your course literature, you can do this, second-hand or new.

Learn more about borrowing or buying books on the Lund University website.

Schedules can be found via TimeEdit. Here you will find your schedule for the entire semester. Find your schedule by selecting the relevant semester and then searching for your course by name or course code. You can usually see the time, date and place for your introductory meeting via your schedule.

Library and LU access card

Our subjects – Gender Studies, Social Anthropology and Sociology (including HR) – belong to the Faculty of Social Sciences and our library is the Faculty of Social Sciences Library, also called Sambib.

To borrow books, print and copy, you need an LU card.

Your LU card works as your library card, your official Lund University ID, and your access card for the buildings and rooms you are authorised to enter.

Forgot you pin?

Your LU card comes with a PIN code for access.

Learning support at Lund University

At Lund University, it’s important that disabilities such as visual impairment, dyslexia or ADHD do not stand in the way of your studies.

You can receive various forms of learning support to make studying easier, including note-taking assistance, audiobooks, or adjustments during exams.

It is important to apply for support well before the start of the semester.

Learn how to apply and explore the types of support offered at The Disability Support Services at Lund University.
