About our research
Research on society and culture at the Department of Sociology
Two classical social science disciplines are included in the Department of Sociology ni Lund, encouraging a creative and interesting research environment that promotes interdisciplinary projects and collaborations. Our researchers study how people organize themselves in social, cultural, and historical contexts.
How does everyday life change when traditional standards, ways of learning and institutions are dissolved and replaced? How do people create meaning, knowledge and order in a society where large groups of people are unable to live up to society's expectations of a normal living standard? Our researchers at the Department of Sociology try to answer questions like these daily.
The department's collective expertise includes environmental and developmental issues, learning processes, school and educational institutions, governance and control, criminology, social policy and the study of knowledge. Power relations and social cleavages, especially those based on ethnicity, gender, sexuality and social class are the focus of much of the department's research.
Sociologists and social anthropologists try together to understand and explain how people organize themselves in a social, cultural and historical context.
Our list of research publications is extensive showing a great variety in topics, methods and genres, with both disciplinary och cross-disciplinary publications.
