Bachelor's programme - Development Studies

A collaboration between four disciplines.

A bachelor's programme is a three-year education on the first-cycle level, which means that you study 180 credits. Bachelor's programme in Development Studies (BIDS). Programme start: each autumn term.

The Bachelor’s Programme in Development Studies is an interdisciplinary programme focusing on economic, social and political processes and their linkages to development cooperation.

Giving you skills to work in development related fields

You are given the knowledge needed to critically examine and understand the preconditions for, and process of, development. The programme offers you both the background knowledge and the concrete skills needed to work in development-related fields.

You will also gain a critical social science approach that prepares you for postgraduate studies and will assist you in various professions within government agencies, private firms and NGOs.

Four disciplines

The programme draws on, and combines, the scientific traditions from four different disciplines within the social sciences:

  • sociology
  • political science
  • economic geography
  • economic history

This offers you a multi-disciplinary perspective on development studies, and provides opportunity to deepen your knowledge in any of the mentioned subjects.
