Current research
I am part of the research project "Intimate occupations: bordering and family relationships in Palestine, Georgia and Western Sahara (VR 2021-2024 together with Nina Gren). My role in the project is to see how Saharawi family relationships are shaped by (and shape) the Moroccan occupation.
I have a PhD from Gothenburg University (2012) with a thesis on household economies and morality in contemporary Havana, Cuba. I have lectured in social antropologi as well as Global Studies, Latin American Studies etc.
The last nine years I have worked as an applied anthropologist outside of academia as an evaluator, teacher in adult education, and within international solidarity/development aid.

Background
Maria Padrón Hernández is a social antropologist with a PhD from Gothenburg University. Her thesis was on household economies in Cuba. Now her research is on how Sahrawi family relations are shaped by the Moroccan ockupation. she has many years experience of working as an applied anthropologist outside on the university.
