The wearable lifestyle tracker was one of the 2014 Christmas “gifts of the year”. Nowadays, you can see devices from Fitbit, Garmin, Jawbone, etc. being worn all over town. Yet, what do these devices actually do? My dissertation project is an ethnographic investigation of how people use self-tracking and documenting technologies in their efforts to improve their lifestyles. My teaching is mainly in social psychology and qualitative methods.
Mary Fraser Berndtsson studies how people use self-tracking technologies to make lifestyle changes.
