Brante's cross-disciplinary research receives royal prize

The Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences of Uppsala has awarded Thomas Brante this year's prize for the best cross-disciplinary contribution of distinguished quality. The prize is awarded every second year and is worth up to 100,000 SEK.

In his research, the Prize Committee states, Thomas Brante shows "how science and practice are unified in the modern knowledge society. In a fruitful approach that combines sociology, the history of learning, and the philosophy of science, it is analyzed how professions that have been successful to varying degrees have internalized the debate of 'their' different ontologies and paradigms. Based on solid empirical work and with forward-looking foresight, it is demonstrated how this is of great importance when science and practice meet in today's knowledge society."

In their decision, the Committee mentioned particularly Brante's book Den professionella logiken [The Logics of Professions] (2014) and the co-authored book Professionerna i kunskapssamhället [Professions in the Knowledge Society] (2015; together with Eva Johnsson, Gunnar Olofsson and Lennart G. Svensson).

The Price Ceremony will take place on October 8, 2015, in the University Main Building in Uppsala, and will be followed by a lecture by Professor Brante.
