Information for the new semester Spring 2020

web registration, course platform & course information
This information is for students admitted to a course or a programme at Department of Sociology. We are glad that you have chosen to be a student at our Department. On this page we have summarized the most important information for you. You will also find links to other pages that can be useful for you.

Web registration

It is important you fill out the web registration for the course you are admitted to if you plan to study the course. A welcome letter where you will find information about how to register for the course will be sent out to you a couple of weeks before the beginning of the semester. If you have not recieved a welcome letter please see the information below "Have you received a welcome letter?".

Go to the Student Portal to register. This document (pdf) will guide you through the web registration.

You will need your Student-account to carry out the web registration. As a new student at Lund University you will get your Student-account sent to you. This account is then used during your whole study period at Lund University.

  • Web registration can be done during the period 13 - 20 January

If you have any problems with the web registration, please contact the Student Office. See contact information in the fact box here on this webpage.

Course platforms & Course information

All of our courses are connected to a course platform where the teachers upload information. We have three course platforms, Luvit, live@lund and Canvas. You will work in one of them, but which one depends on which course you are admitted to.

Scroll this list and click on your course to see which course platform applies for you. You will also find your literature, syllabus and schedule on the course-page (This link takes you to Education in the main menu).

If you change your mind

If you wish to discontinue your studies on a course on which you are registered, it is important that you report your withdrawal immediately through the Student Portal If you report withdrawal from studies within the first three weeks of the course, known as early withdrawal, you have the opportunity to re-apply for the course at a later date.

If you wish to withdraw from an entire study programme, you must complete a withdrawal from studies form, available at Please contact the study advisers on e-mail: studievagledare [at] soc [dot] lu [dot] se

Are on the waiting list instead?

If you are on our waiting list, the Student Office will contact you if you can be offered a place on the course or the programme.

Have you received a welcome letter?

If not, welcome letters for all courses this semester can be found here.

Lund University is sometimes unable to send emails to a number of external email services, e.g. Yahoo, Comhem, Live and Hotmail.

Newly admitted students might not have received welcome letters from the department with information about the start of the semester.
