Sociology: Internship, 30 credits (SOCN19)

These courses are optional in semester 3 of the Master of Science programme in Sociology (SASCO, 120 credits), and are also offered as elective courses.

 

SOCN18 Sociology: Internship, 15 credits. Autumn

The internship comprises half a semester, 15 credits (10 weeks). The aim of the course is to provide you with the opportunity to work actively with societal issues in different public, private or NGO activities. It is your responsibility to find an appropriate work placement. The placement must be approved by the course director. You are to read and analyse literature related to the area of the internship during the course.

The teaching consists of supervision. The hours of supervision are limited to the semester in which the student first registered for the course. Exceptions can be made if there are special grounds. Participation in the final seminars and workshops is compulsory unless special circumstances apply. This includes designing an internship plan and internship report.

At the beginning of the course, a written agreement must be in place between the host organisation, yourself and the course director that is inaccordance with what is specified above (qualified tasks and the minimum and maximum number of hours).

The internship agreement for SOCN18  is to be sent to the course director. It must be signed by you, as well as the supervisor at the workplace, and the course director.

SOCN19 Sociology: Internship, 30 credits. Autumn

The course worth 30 credits is a specialised and more comprehensive internship. The aim of the course is to provide you with specialised understanding of how sociological knowledge and skills can be applied in organisational contexts and in working life.  It is your responsibility to find an appropriate work placement.

It is to a high degree up to the student to find suitable assignments, in consultationwith a supervisor at the host organisation and course teaching staff at theDepartment of Sociology at Lund University. The right to supervision is limited to thesemester in which the internship takes place

The teaching on the course consists of introductory lectures, a midway seminar and afinal seminar, and individual or group supervision.
