Associate Professor | Senior lecturer
Main research areas
- Alcohol, drugs, sex work, and nightlife
- Street culture, drug dealing, and violence
- Religion, radicalization, and extremism
My work is broadly concerned with social problems. In particular, I am interested in how people experience and make sense of intoxication, violence, and extremism. These interests have resulted in a decade of ethnographic and mixed-methods research in places like nightclubs, prisons, music festivals, drug markets, and seaside resorts (e.g. Sunny Beach and Ibiza). The major project that I am currently working on is about street culture and jihadism.
